Peacock of Resistance by Nora Franzese

Acrylic Painting

15x30

The peacock flower, also known as Poinciana pulcherrima, is a symbol of female resistance against male oppression, slavery, and colonialism. This piece was created as the news blasted across social media and on news outlets of women joining forces to fight against oppression that also seemed to be mirroring history of the 1930s in Europe. The live stream inspired the start of the work.

About Nora Franzese:

As an arts educator for over two decades and mother of artists, Nora has discovered that her own art has become her main form of therapy. She’s an award-winning illustrator and painter who is energized by painting live for the public as well as enjoying facilitating community mural projects.

Over the years, her work has been more about the process and the joy of creating. Recently, Nora has learned that the need to paint is no longer a choice, but a necessity. The use of symbolism through her process is her current direction.
