Our Moon - Light For The Darkness by Ron Friedman

Digital Photograph

24x24

The night sky fascinates me, and especially the moon. Perhaps I'm feeling a throwback to childhood in rural Ohio, where late at night, my dark-induced fears were dispelled by the light of the full moon. As a young adult, I was inspired by our Apollo missions, particularly the moon landing at the Sea of Tranquility in July 1969. This photograph, taken without a telescope, depicts the Northeast quadrant of the full moon. The Sea of Crises, Mare Crisium, is the bold, smooth, round area in the upper right, and the Apollo landing site, the Sea of Tranquility, is the larger flat area to the lower left of Mare Crisium. However, don't look for the actual landing site in the photo, as it's invisible from Earth, even with the strongest telescopes.

About Ron Friedman:

I am a photographer inspired by emotion, sparked by everyday people and surroundings.  My work blends nature and urbanity, and I seek out people, birds in flight, sunsets and sunrises, and the night sky--the endless nebula, the planets, and galaxies. I’m alive, with my camera, on the streets of the city and equally in the vastness of our broader natural world.  With my camera in hand, I feel a youthful springiness in my movement as I’m energized by all I see and ponder.
