My work is a process-based disembodiment of the visceral memories and cycles experienced during my childhood. Using methods of mark-making that involve the physical body, such as carving, print-making, papermaking, drawing, and painting, I use landscape to create a space to return to where I can freely reflect on the loss I have felt. While constructing with materials like wood, paper, ink, thread, and personal objects, an anthropomorphism happens between my body and the forms I am building. Within these cycles of emotional processing and release, I am centered by the grounding feeling of the floor, of the earth, that has been there as a safe place to return to as I create my work.
 
About Haley Jenner:
Haley Jenner(they/them) is an artist, environmentalist, and community builder. Place, landscape, and story-telling are central to their practice of co-creating visual narratives of people and the environment through the process of mark-making. Materials like wood and paper that involve more time-intensive physical construction form a deep connection with the artist as their human experience is paralleled by environmental processes. Their work asks viewers to reflect on their environmental histories and ignite advocacy for protection, gratitude, and respect for all beings. Haley graduated from Mount Holyoke College this past May with a degree in Art Studio and Environmental Studies and looks towards getting their MFA in the future.
