Forever Young by Kelly Clancy-Nill
Mixed Media (Ink, Watercolor, & Acrylic)
16x20
I created this work in many layers, using techniques that were both abstract, or “messy”, and also very controlled. I like to use both styles when I create mixed media work. It reminds me to maintain balance and harmony in my creative process and in my own life. I began by writing the lyrics to Dylan’s “Forever Young”. Then I saturated the paper with water and applied liquid watercolors so that they could flow freely to create a myriad of beautiful colors. I then drew the flower in white ink with controlled lines. Finally, I added a dark blue liquid acrylic around the edges of the flower to provide a contrast and highlight the bright colors within. Without this darkness, the piece would lack depth, and the colors within the flower would not shine so brightly. The light needs the darkness in order to be truly appreciated.
