ABOUT THE SHOW:

Done without overthinking, a visceral act can be perceived as irrational, but it’s our most natural and significant instinct. It is our attitude and way of expressing ourselves from an intense place, positive or negative. Visceral is a profound display of sincere artistic expression of figurative & abstract works from Jenny Ink and JRo the Artist.

JENNY INK

'Jenny Ink’ is a NY-based mixed media artist. Her work has been shown in galleries and collectives throughout Long Island, Las Vegas, NYC, Miami, London, Milan, Paris, and Barcelona. Locally, Jen participates in salon-style ‘All Art + ‘ group exhibitions with Artio Gallery at One Space in Tribeca and Van Der Plas Gallery on the Lower East Side, showcasing emerging artists using Instagram as their main artistic platform and utilizing virtual exhibits featured on Artland. Artio Art Gallery showcased Jenny’s work in a VR online exhibit and digitally at Le Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, France, in April. This spring and summer, Jen went on to be featured in Artio Magazine and won an open call to participate in ‘Inter-Connecting Lines’, participating in 2 international group exhibitions at One Art Space in Tribeca. Representation with Artio led to participation in the London Biennale of Women Artists at Chelsea Town Hall, shortly after showing with Siempre Avanti Gallery at Hampton Fine Art Fair ’24. Jen holds a bachelor's Degree in Communications with a concentration in Fine Arts from UB, in addition to an Associate in Ad Design from FIT. After a few career changes, Jen is finding great joy in navigating a new career path as a working artist.

JRO THE ARTIST

'JRo the Artist' is a local Long Islander who

was born in Brooklyn, NY, to Puerto Rican parents. She spent twenty years as a graphic designer for one of Long Island's top radio stations before opening her restaurant. During COVID, she revisited her love for art and began teaching herself how to paint portraits.

ARTIST STATEMENTS:

JENNY INK

I take inspiration from the cities I have lived in and visited. My artwork is a celebration of diversity through people, places + love of music. I am most recognized for my Contemporary Figurative & Abstract works highlighting textural elements, vibrant colors, energetic brush strokes, and somewhat chaotic palette knife markings. Multilayering and deconstructing are key to my creativity. There is a visual tension and tactile distinction in my work. Imparting an Impasto painting technique, I am known for utilizing spray paint, oil sticks, water-soluble crayons, pastels, as well as collage to introduce a variety of textures intricately worked into my paintings in unusual ways. I find great joy in finding unexpected beauty and highlighting nuances that may have otherwise been misunderstood, underrepresented, or gone unnoticed.

JRO THE ARTIST

As a portrait artist, I find inspiration in the individuals who shape our cultural landscape. They embody the intersection of personal identity and social influence. Through my work, I aim to capture the essence of these personalities, not only highlighting their physical features but also delving into the emotion and energy that define their public presence. Each portrait is an exploration of fame, vulnerability, and the stories behind the faces we recognize.
