KATHY BROWN

About Kathy Brown

Kathy Brown is an artist living and working in Holbrook, NY. Her fascination with art and color became evident when, at the tender age of three, she painted one leg yellow and the other green with some house paint that her father had left open in their garage. That event is probably what prompted her parents to ensure that she had more appropriate art supplies available to her at all times.

At the age of 60, Kathy went back to school to obtain her Visual Arts degree and graduated summa cum laude in 2021. She is an active member of Women Sharing Art, the Art League of Long Island, LIMarts, and BAFFA. Her current works in oil, cold wax, and mixed media are her expressions and interpretations of personal memories, landscapes, seascapes, sunsets, and the beauty of the natural world. As a former quilt artist, she also enjoys creating abstract pieces that showcase her love of pattern, texture, and color. Kathy’s work has been exhibited at various galleries and venues on Long Island, and her art resides in several corporate and private collections, both locally and nationally.

Artist Statement:

I approach my wood surfaces as a space for healing. Through the intuitive application of color and texture, I translate intangible emotions into a physical language. I use oil paint and cold wax to suggest the organic patterns and vibrancy found in nature, allowing the creative process itself to become a form of meditation and recovery.
