ABOUT THE SHOW:
This mixed-media exhibit features two artists who transform the ancient art of mosaic with unexpected twists and fresh energy. By combining traditional techniques with innovative materials, they create bold, contemporary works that surprise and captivate. The show offers a vibrant fusion of old and new, pushing the boundaries of what mosaics can be.

GABRIELLA GRAMA
Mosaicist Gabriella Grama discovered a passion for mosaics after an extensive career in stained glass. She studied in the USA at the Chicago School of Mosaics, in Croatia, and in Ravenna, Italy, under some of the most renowned artists in the field. Combining the intricate techniques of stained glass with the timeless art of mosaics, Grama is creating pieces that are both innovative and steeped in tradition.
She finds mosaic a versatile and flexible medium in which anything can be used: an old piece of China, broken glass, pebbles, shells, grains, bark, sand, etc. Mosaics are lasting and, like no other medium, extremely fresh and innovative, as there are no restrictions on what can be used or repurposed in constructing them. The artist experiments with a variety of media, and she often blurs the lines between mosaics and fused glass.

JUDITH CASELEY
Judith Caseley is the author and illustrator of more than forty books for children. She grew up in Cranford, New Jersey, and loved drawing movie stars in evening gowns after discovering classic Hollywood films while babysitting. She graduated from Syracuse University, where she initially majored in English before switching to art. After completing an independent study in children’s illustration—combining art and storytelling—she had found her niche. In 1973, she moved to England, married Roger Caseley, and began working at Sotheby’s Auctioneers, behind the book counter. Works by Beatrix Potter, Arthur Rackham, and Edmund Dulac inspired her to create greeting cards. Commissions followed, and she had a sold-out exhibition of her work at a London gallery. Caseley later remarried and had two children, Jenna and Michael. Their antics, along with memories from her own childhood, inspired her to write books about stage fright, homesickness, depression, adoption, and cousins. Her work has been published by Greenwillow Books, HarperCollins, Farrar Straus, Tanglewood, and Full Cycle Publications.
In 2017, she discovered mosaics, and Z Is for Zebra: A Mosaic Menagerie won the bronze eLit Award. However, making art proved to be a solitary pursuit, and she found a sisterhood of artists in Women Sharing Art, as well as opportunities for teaching and exhibiting at The Art Guild in Manhasset.
She is currently illustrating her forty-first children’s book.
