How long have you been creating art?
"All my life. I’m very fortunate, I was born with the desire to create."
What inspires your artwork?
"All of the above! It can be something as small as a seashell on the beach or as big as the Chrysler Building!"
What makes you happy as an artist?
"Watching people look at my work and smile."

What is the name of YOUR favorite artwork, and why do you love it?
"In January, February, and March of 2001, I was invited to paint the ceiling of the Patchogue Theater for the Preforming Arts. It was a huge undertaking and I loved every minute of it! I worked on a five foot step ladder on top of a thirty three foot scaffolding. I carry the joy and feeling of accomplishment with me to this day."
What is your favorite piece of artwork by another artist? Who is the artist and what is the name of the artwork? What do you like about it?
"The Kiss by Klimt. He blended great beauty and loving emotion together."
How do you overcome creative blocks?
"I’m very fortunate, and that rarely happens, but when it does, I try to let the interesting things in life tap me on the shoulder. In other words, don’t stress, just be open, and that “thing” will find you."
What are you working on at the moment?
"A few small paintings for family and friends."
What was your proudest moment as an artist?
"Going to my young grandchild’s classroom and seeing their beautiful artwork."
What is your biggest challenge as an artist?
"Making time to work on my pictures. I, like many others, allow life to get in the way. I really have to plan better."
What is the biggest mistake you made as an artist that turned into a great achievement?
"Years ago, I was painting on paper and accidentally tore the edge. At first it was an “oh no” moment, but then I remembered seeing a painting with a torn edge and I had liked it. I just didn’t have the freedom to tear it myself, and there it was, a lightbulb moment!! I tear a lot of my work now!!"
What advice would you give an artist who is just starting out?
"Be yourself, find a medium you like, use colors you like, create what you like. This is not to please someone else. This is all you! Fall in love with it."
Are you involved in the local art community? If so, what do you like about it?
"I am a member of a small group of artists called the Bell Street Artists. We have painters, photographers, and sculptors and have been together for many years. We are great friends, meet once a month and discuss art, and have a big show together once a year at the BAFFA Gallery. It’s wonderful."
Have you had a mentor or coach? If so, who is it and how did he/she/they help you?
"Again, I feel fortunate to have had the family, friends, and teachers who always encouraged me."
How has your art changed over time? Do you connect to your current artwork as much as your past artwork?
"I learn something new everyday. I change, and therefore my art changes too."
When and where is your next exhibition? Or what are you working on now?
"The Bell Street Artists and I are already planning our next exhibition at the BAFFA Gallery, which is a lovely gallery and shows our art off beautifully."
What do you love most about being part of the BAFFA community/family?
"Over the years, I have been so lucky to be a part of this amazing artistic and creative community. A group is only as good as the people in it and these people are the most talented, creative, loving, and accomplished people you could meet. I have great respect, love for them, and I am honored to call them my friends."
