ARTIST STATEMENT:

I’ve grown up in a rural area my entire life. There is a plethora of wildlife and gorgeous landscapes everywhere you turn. In early childhood, I developed a love for birds. I studied them and learned as much as I could, from birdwatching to learning names, species, and anatomy. It was also in early childhood that I struggled with anxiety and developed an eating disorder. As I get older, I work towards recovery, one day at a time. One of the first things I started to work on was opening up about these emotions and struggles. It can be hard to put into words, so I make paintings about them. With each painting, is a new moment in time. Maybe I struggled a lot when it was conceptualized, or maybe, I was feeling ok, or confident even. When things get heavy, I remind myself it will not last forever and I paint.
